I’m a list maker.
Whether it’s to do lists. packing lists, shopping lists – if it’s not on the list, it’s not happening!
But I don’t very often make a fun list, one that is about the things I want to do rather than what I need to do.
Recently I read Kate’s post ‘The list every woman needs to have or make’ over on Pouting in Heels and it struck me – I need a non-negotiables list!
So I sat down on a recent train journey and started thinking. What do I need to have in my life? What makes me feel good, makes my life easier and gives me a glimmer of luxury?
And these are the things I came up with – family and friends aside – that I don’t want to live without.
I have recently embraced Instagram and I have been surprised by how much my feed is littered with pictures of flowers. When I was younger I told my Mum I would always have fresh flowers in the house but as I got older it seemed an extravagance. I have been trying to do it more recently and it’s amazing how it lifts my spirits so I’m going to commit to always having at least one bunch of fresh flowers on show.
I resisted having a cleaner for years when my most my friends did as I just couldn’t justify it, even though I hate cleaning. Then, when I was pregnant with baby A I realised I just couldn’t keep up so I gave in. Now, my cleaner has gone away to have her own baby and I miss her so much! I would happily gve her my last £20 a week and it’s worth every penny. Come back soon Ruth!
I have always been slightly obsessed with good underwear, especially bras. Since I had baby A I have gone down two cup sizes and up one back size so things really do need more help than ever! I always think you look and feel so much better with the right underwear and I am not going to be one of those mums that lives in grey, saggy pants!!
OK, this may seem a bit laughable at the moment as both our children get up at 5am – it’s honestly like A has an alarm clock set! But Mr C and I have got a fairly good system set where we take it in turns to get up and it makes a world of difference. When he was away for work recenlty I felt like a complete zombie! I need my sleep and dream of the day when the whole family lays in bed until a sensible time.
Liz Earle moisturiser
I have never spent lots of money on a beauty regime and my make up bag has stayed the same for years but this moisturiser is a must-have. It is the only one I have found that balances my skin correctly and now use the face wash, toner and tinted SPF as well. It is a little pricey but lasts a long time and I love it.
So there’s my list. Reading it back, it seems a bit shallow and there are lots of other things I could include like date nights, time in the countryside and good food, but these are the 5 simple things that are non-negotiable to me.
What would yours be?
