I like to buy birthday presents that last.
For J’s first birthday we bought him an apple tree. For his second birthday he got a new bedroom. So for his third birthday it had to be something else that he would have for years to come. Something that would give an energetic, outdoorsy boy hours of fun…
A climbing frame of course!
We looked around long and hard and wanted something a) wooden b) fun c) that could fit in our garden and budget. We found Wickey online and loved their designs, versatility and how much they could fit into a small space. We were also impressed with their long history and safety features inlcuding covers for all the bolts and swing clips that wrap around the frame.
The climbing frame finally arrived the day before J’s birthday (cutting a bit fine I know!) and Mr A got to work. It took him most of the day to construct it – although that did include a few pieces put together and then taken apart again and a little bit of swearing! Overall though, he said the instructions were fairly straightforward to follow and he managed the whole thing on his own.
J couldn’t wait to get out and play on it and was eagerly watching Daddy from the window every step of the way. He absolutely loves it – especially the slide – and so did all his friends when he debuted it at his birthday party.
The frame comes with some nice touches including handles for the slide, a telescope and flag. They also suggest using the space below the climbing tower as a sandpit, which I think we will do in the Summer. The basic Wickey Freeflyer wooden swing sets come with a regular swing and a rope ladder but we decided he was a bit young for the ladder so replaced it with a tyre swing. We also wanted a swing that baby A could use too and the one we chose is great as you can take the front off and then eventually the back as well so it grows with them.
J has already had hours of fun playing on his Wickey Freeflyer climbing frame, baby A loves sitting in the swing and Mum and Dad like a sneaky go on the tyre swing too! We like the fact that the carabiner clips mean we can easily switch out different swings so the frame grows and evolves with J and baby A. I am really glad we decided to buy it and I know they will both love it for many years to come.
What on earth can we top it with for his 4th birthday!?
Disclosure: We were provided with a discount on the climbing frame for the purpose of this review. All words and opinions are our own.
