This week #Freefromfridays features brilliant blogger Laura Kenny from Dairy Free Kids who I am delighted is co-hosting the linky with me.
Laura will be helping me out this week by commenting on your posts and sharing them on social media. Please tweet her @dairyfreekids and me @freefromfarm using hashtag #freefromfridays. I will do my best to join in, baby allowing!
What ingredients are your recipes free from?
My recipes are all dairy free.
Tell us a little bit about your free from journey…
I have two boys with cow’s milk protein allergies. The older boy who is almost 7 has grown out of it which is wonderful but we are still vigilant and cook mostly dairy free recipes to include my 3 year old.
What advice would you give someone who has recently starting cooking free from?
Don’t panic, it’s never as difficult or overwhelming as it might seem at first. Try making some of your usual dishes using substitutes where necessary. There is a lot of information online now about what makes a good substitute in recipes. Don’t be afraid to try new things, removing foods to cook free from can be a chance to try ingredients you might never even have considered using before! For example I now love to use dates to sweeten things naturally whereas a few years ago I would have turned my nose up at using them.
What made you start blogging?
When my first son was diagnosed with CMPA I found it very difficult to find products in the shops and to find recipes online. This was about 5 years ago. I started blogging to share the information I had learnt and to share recipes and tips with other parents of dairy free children.
What is your favourite recipe on your site?
My favourite recipe is for Chocolate Brownies. I have a chocolate addiction. These are just delicious and they are my go-to recipe for birthday parties, cake sales etc.
What is your favourite recipe from last weeks’ #freefromfridays?
My favourite recipe from last week’s #freefromfridays was Strawberry Rhubarb Squares from Bluenose Baker. As regular readers of dairy free kids will know, we are big fans of
rhubarb and strawberries around here.
