Free From Food Awards #freefromfridays

March 31, 2017 by Emma 16 Comments

A night full of friends, fizz and the best free from food around – sounds good eh!

It was a pleasure to head to the Free From Food Awards this week after helping judge them earlier this year. It was my second year being involved and this one was a special one, their 10 year anniversary.

They have pioneered so much in the free from industry and the awards’ growth – 10 times as many people were there this year than the first year – just goes to show how things have improved.

The overall winner was Bfree sweet potato wraps which are top 14 allergen free! They taste great and are a healthy alternative to regular wraps.

Their were the usual offerings from the major supermarkets and well known brands but also some brilliant new products that I had not come across before.

My favourite, during judging, was this brilliant Free & Easy carrot cake mix. It is gluten and dairy free and made up with oil so also egg free! It deservedly won the Storecupboard category.

Another product I was very excited by was the dairy free Miiro salted caramel choc ice, which was delicious. Looking at their website, their two other flavours are hazelnut and peanut butter so I’m not sure about their nut labelling but if you are just looking for a dairy free treat then you need one of these!

Last but definitely not least I want to send a massive congratulations to Vicki from Free From Fairy whose fabulous gluten free, rice free flour took home silver in the innovation category!

And Vicki also kicks off my favourite posts from last week with this really intersting and useful article about Is the gluten free diet really bad for you?

I also loved these Avocado chicken pops from Adventures Of An Allergy Mummy. They sound scrumptious and are a great way to sneak another veg into your child’s dinner.

Baileys no churn ice cream from Gluten Free Alchemist – need I say more?

Sounds like a totally awesome evening and so pleased for Vicki. Though not at all surprised. Her flours are totally fab – I was seriously impressed with how they made my #FreeFromEaster bakes taste nicer than when I use regular flour! That is some feat!! I’ve just linked up my Mini Egg Brownies which are made with her plain flour 🙂 Eb x

I love that this has been going on for 10 years. Sometimes food allergies seem so new, or rare, to people (or to their extended families and friends!) when they are first diagnosed. In truth, people have gathered to eat safely for a long time. What a great, and fun, reminder.

Yes that’s so true. Allergies are not a new fangled thing but i do feel lucky that there is so much more awareness and products now.

It sounds like a great evening celebrating some amazing products. I always get a pang of envy for all those lucky people who get to be part of the testing! Nest year, maybe you could sneak me in your bag and take me too?!
I love the BFree Sweet Potato Wraps….. I am not surprised they did so well. And great to see Vicki getting the recognition she deserves!
Thanks so much for including my Baileys Ice Cream…. xx
