Columns and cookie dough #freefromfridays

July 14, 2017 by Emma 11 Comments

Happy Friday! It seems a lot longer than two weeks since we last spoke, as so much has happened…

  • J has ‘graduated’ preschool!

  • We went on holiday

  • I spoke at The Allergy And FreeFrom Show

  • I got a travel column in FreeFrom Heaven magazine

  • I signed a book deal!

One thing I haven’t done though is blog barely at all for the last month, so I really need to get back on that soon. I just need more hours in the day!

Allergy And Free From Show

I first went to the allergy show 3 years ago, a few weeks after J’s anaphylactic reaction. I was completely overwhelmed and wandered round in a daze. This year was such a different story. The hall was full of familiar brands, companies and friends who I have come to rely on.

It was great to catch up with my freefrom family, speak about travelling with allergies and seek out some new products.

My highlights of the show were a few small producers, all free of the top14 allergens and perfect for children. We loved the homely vibe of My Gammies who produce fresh, homemade cakes. Forced To Be Fussy have some lovely baking kits and Miss A was a big fan of the cookie dough from Angels and Cookies – she didn’t see any need to bake it first!

Travel column

The new site I have been working on, Allergy Travels, is finally coming together and alongside that, I will also be writing a new travel column in Free From Heaven magazine. I can’t wait! It will include freefrom friendly events, travel providers, products and new openings around the world. Look out for my first column in the September/October edition.

Book deal

Last week I signed a book deal with Pen & Sword publishers to write ‘Living With Allergies: Practical Advice For All The Family’. It’s been something I have been thinking about for a while and was a natural progression with my writing and journalism background. I felt there was a real gap for a book that brings together all the day to day advice of how to manage allergies and luckily, my publishers agreed!

I’m very excited, a little bit scared and looking forward to getting started. I have a lot of research to do and will be reaching out to you all to make sure I make it the most useful book I can.

So back to you all…What have you been up to? Link up your recent posts, your best recipes and give me some inspiration to get back in the blogging seat!

You have so much on your plate, sweetie, but it’s also so so exciting! I can’t wait to hear more about the book and your holidays. My first allergy show was 3 years ago too. I also walked around in a daze, not too sure what I was doing there or what I was looking for. I had a 2-week old Wriggly in tow so that probably explains my confusion a bit, but I have to admit I found it a tad overwhelming then, and way more focused on gluten-freethan allergy-friendly. 3 years on and I think it’s the best thing ever!
