Birthday bakes #freefromfridays

My baby boy turned 4 yesterday – how did that happen?!

It all feels like the end of an era at the moment. With J starting school in September and Miss A roaring into toddlerhood I have already written about how I’m feeling just a little bit broody. I’ll miss our days together and although I feel we’ve made the most of it, it still seems to have passed in the blink of an eye.

Anyway, enough nostalgia! We celebrated the day with a trip to the Natural History Museum to see dinosaurs and lunch at the Rainforest Cafe. They were just as allergy friendly as we had heard – even asking if we had any allergies when we arrived! – and the whole meal was a great experience. I made a little vlog so I’ll share that with you all soon.

Last weekend we had J’s party. 12 four year olds in a field in the rain!! We had a forest school theme which was brilliant but ended up being a bit soggy too. After some beans and sausages to warm them up, and roasting marshmallows over the firepit, it was time for the cake…

I was worried I wouldn’t beat my digger cake from last year but I was happy with how it turned out. It’s all dairy, egg and nut free and you can find out how to make it here.

A few recipes from last week caught my eye as I thought they would be great to add to a birthday buffet.

These Fudgy chocolate vegan brownies from Food Allergy Pantry sound delicious and I’m sure would go down a treat.

And these Chocolate marshmallow crispie squares from Intolerant Gourmand are so easy to make but always a classic.

Loved that cake, special birthday cakes… they’re a stress to make but the satisfaction when you step back and admire is priceless. Glad the lil man had a lovely day.

Hooray for brownies (and thank you), and for the neat krispy treat recipe, too. I can’t believe how pretty your Thomas cake is—what a lucky kid. 🙂 My youngest is nearly 10 now, and it’s a different kind of joy altogether (the kind where your heart swells to watch them but you still cry over other people’s babies, at least).

    Have a great weekend!

Happy birthday, J! Oh my goodness, what a gorgeous little baby! The more I see pictures of him, the more I think he looks like a Mini You! The cake you made for him looks impressive!
