What’s your favourite free from product? This week I was lucky enough to enjoy a whole buffet full of the best ones on the market!
It was the awards ceremony for the Free From Food Awards, which encourage and celebrate the best free from producers. This is the third year I have been a judge for the awards and I love being involved and seeing all the new and innovative products. You can see more behind the scenes of judging here.
One thing I really like about the awards is that the big players, like Tesco and Asda, have no more chance of winning than the small producers as it is all judged blind and purely on merit. It’s lovely to see the mix of people at the ceremony and the opportunity it gives those producers to make contacts and move their business forward.
For me, the highlight this year was seeing the lovely ladies from Wildcraft Bakery not only win Gold for their gluten free sourdough bread but also win the startup category which means they will get mentoring from Tesco.
My favourite product this year was the Ugo Thirve Pumpkin And Sage Raviolini which is free from the top 14 allergens. It tasted really good and it’s brilliant to see the rise in products that are totally free from and the motivation this gives other producers to follow their path.
The overall winner was Orgran Vegan Easy Egg which is a powdered egg replacer that can be used to make a scrambled egg alternative or to use in quiche or fritatta. Anyone with an egg allergy know how tricky it can be and it’s great that this allows people to recreate the texture of eggs rather than just be a replacement in baking.
It’s great to discover new products and get inspiration for recipes and meals we can make at home. What have you been making recently? Share your top recipes and allergy friendly posts below.

Sounds like quite an event, I would have loved to see all the new free from products, and that egg replacement one sounds marvelous! Speaking of eggs, I’ve just linked up a pretty eggy muffin frittatas recipe, which is gluten free. Have a good weekend!
Lovely round up of the awards, had an amazing time and loved seeing you and the others xxx
I’m really sad I missed the event this year but great to see who the winners were. I was amazed by that Easy Egg when I tried it for judging!
Judging the Free From Food Awards sounds so much fun – it must be great discovering new products and I love that the little guys have just as much chance of winning as the big players! Eb x
