The UK only has 32 full-time equiavalent allergy specialists for millions of sufferers, yet allergies alone account for 11% of NHS prescriptions budget. There is a lack of understanding and a lack of training so time, money and expertise are wasted.
The only way to change this, to get the provision that is so desperately needed, is to push the issue up the government’s agenda. The National Allergy Strategy Group (NASG) works to do this.
Last year I spoke at one of the NASG parliamentary meetings and on Wednesday I got to attend a drinks reception they held at the Houses Of Parliament which brought together MPs, medical experts and allergy sufferers to rally for change.
It was an inspiring and uplifting event and here are my thoughts on the evening…
