Vlog: National Allergy Strategy Group reception at parliament

The UK only has 32 full-time equiavalent allergy specialists for millions of sufferers, yet allergies alone account for 11% of NHS prescriptions budget. There is a lack of understanding and a lack of training so time, money and expertise are wasted.

The only way to change this, to get the provision that is so desperately needed, is to push the issue up the government’s agenda. The National Allergy Strategy Group (NASG) works to do this.

Last year I spoke at one of the NASG parliamentary meetings and on Wednesday I got to attend a drinks reception they held at the Houses Of Parliament which brought together MPs, medical experts and allergy sufferers to rally for change.

It was an inspiring and uplifting event and here are my thoughts on the evening…

I think it’s important that something is done so that money and time isn’t wasted. Definitely think training is a good idea when it comes to knowing about allergies.

32??? They must be the most overworked people in the world, so many people have allergies. I do hope that all your hard work pays off and you are able to improve the situation.x

Yeah, allergies are on the rise and the provision is unfortunately just not keeping up. We are lucky we have a great specialist but so many people don’t.

I’m so pleased your feeling positive. I can imagine it’s so overwhelming so knowing that there are others and people really trying to bring awareness and help must be reassuring. Well done!

Oh Emma this is just amazing. Well done you for stepping forward to make a difference and raise awareness even if it was a bit of a struggle with your emotions – just shows how passionate you are and don’t apologise for that! You are great on camera by the way – a real natural. Thanks for linking up at #sharethejoy x
