You know when you have a baby and you can barely remember your life without them? That’s how I feel about my new fridge freezer! Let me introduce the Hisense RS694N4TC1…When we moved into our house six years ago, we totally overhauled the kitchen but our budget didn’t stretch to an American style fridge freezer. My husband has pined for one ever since – he is American after all!
Honestly, I was never that bothered but now we have one, I can see what all the fuss was about. I seriously have no idea how we fitted everything in the old one. Plus, it’s just a dream to have ice and cold water on tap in this lovely heat wave we are having.
I had never heard of Hisense before so I was a little wary about the brand but on the basis of this fridge, I would happily recommend them. Plus it is significantly cheaper than similar models from more well known brands and I personally think it looks more sleek and stylish than them too.
We ordered the fridge through AO and although I had measured all the doors in our small cottage, I was still concerned they wouldn’t be able to fit it in. I shouldn’t have worried as the delivery men were amazing. They had trouble turning it in our hallway but showed no signs of annoyance even though they eventually had to take a whole door off.
Ease of use
Once the fridge was in, we had to leave it to settle for four hours before turning it on but then it was easy to set up. We simply had to untape the shelves and drawers and slide them into place.
The water and ice maker is incredibly simple. There is no need to plumb it in which means you can be totally flexible about where you keep your fridge. All you do is fill up the water container in the fridge and this then automatically feeds into the ice machine! It looks quite small but I am amazed at how little we actually have to fill it up.
Capacity and organisation
The fridge can hold a lot of food – 29 bags of shopping apparently and I don’t doubt it! It has five shelves and two deep drawers, as well as a bottle rack. It also has five further shelves in the door. This is really great for organising your food as for us, means we can dedicate a whole shelf as dairy free for Miss A and keep other foods separate too.
The freezer also has shelves in the door which I really like. They are great for storing little cartons of frozen garlic and chilli – we don’t use fresh because of the children’s allergies. It also has two drawers and five shelves in the main section. For me, I would prefer more drawers as it can be difficult to balance everything on the shelves and a few of them are a bit small as the ice maker eats into the space.
There are a lot of great features to this fridge. It has an alarm on it which is set off if you leave the fridge or freezer open too long – a life saver for forgetful people like me! It also has total no frost technology which means no chipping away at big ice chunks. You can eve control the exact temperature you want the fridge and freezer to be set at. Another smart feature is super fast freezing which means it rapidly cools the temperature when you add a large amount of food, like after the weekly shop.

Would I recommend the Hisense RS694NTC1 American Fridge Freezer?
