When it comes to birthday parties, I always think it’s the little touches that make a difference. One party soon merges into another full of bouncy castles, magicians and sugar fuelled children so it’s nice to find a way to personalise them.
Sometimes that’s with a theme – last year we had a forest school party – or with a showstopping centrepiece like our train cake, or choosing a special day out over a big bash. This year, we wanted to invite all J’s new school friends and hired the local village hall for some traditional party games so needed something to liven it up.
When Personalised Parties asked if we would like to try out some of their party wear, I thought it would be a great way to add something special to the day. It was a tough choice to decide what to go for as they have so many great themes to choose from. The dinosaurs almost made it but in the end J wanted to go with a milestone pack that included his age on and he chose the nautical theme.
The design was bright and inviting with lots of animal characters and nautical images without being overly boyish. It was a good balance between being themed and being all about J – he love seeing his name and age on everything!
There were lots of nice touches to unify the party like the little flags you could put into food. These arrived with the cocktail sticks separately but were really quick and easy to put together. They would also be useful for highlighting any ingredients if you needed to.
The plates and cups were good quality with thick card and although you had to add to the outer patterened skin to the cups, they did not come apart at all. Everything withstood a party full of five year olds and was still looking smart by the end.
The designs made a real impression when people came into the room and up to the table and it was an easy way to add interest to a plain room and make it feel very personal.
I really loved the party boxes as this was a great way to continue the theme throughout and also they seemed like a more substantial and impressive way to give out gifts than just a simple party bag. They were easy to put together and quite sturdy too.
I have also seen these kinds of boxes used to give out individual lunches at parties before. This is a great way to prevent food waste or to provide people with allergy friendly individual meals in a fun and inclusive way.
There were also masks and party hats in the pack, which you had to put together by threading and tying together the elastic. These were a bit fiddly and time consuiming. We gave out the masks in the party boxes and they were a nice touch, which again unified the theme. However, the party hats unfortunately were difficult to put together and we couldn’t get them to stay properly so we didn’t use them.
Each kit includes:
- 8 xPlates
- 8 x Cups
- 8 x Flags
- 8 x Party boxes
- 8 x Hats
- 8 x Masks
- 16 x flags (two designs)
Overall, I was very impressed by our Personalised Party kit and J was very happy with it. They are a bit pricey – £29.99 – but you do get a lot included. I think they would be perfect for a small celebration, a party held at home or something in a generic hall when you don’t have an entertainer or other decorations to add a unique touch.
