We live in the middle of a field.
No, I am not exaggerating! Our home is a former farm worker’s cottage and is reached down a bumpy mile long farm track.
It’s idyllic and I love it, but it does have its problems.
Finding us is one of them.
This isn’t helped by the fact that our postcode takes you to the wrong place and developers are currently building a massive estate at the end of our track!
Although this is a daily inconvenience, with a severely allergic child it also becomes a great worry. It can take days for delivery drivers to find us, so I was worried about how an ambulance would reach us in an emergency.
I contacted our local ambulance service and a locality manager came out to visit the next day.
He put our address into his system as if we had made a 999 call to see if he could find us. He got a bit lost along the way but was talked in by an operator who could see him on their sat nav system. Now he has added e a special note to give responders extra information about our location if we call 999.
This is very reassuring.
Keeping family safe
I love living in the middle of a field and that J will grow up surrounded by so much space. But like any mum, I take every step I can to make sure my family is as safe as possible so we can live the country life and have access to much-needed medical care.
If you live rurally or have an address that is hard to find then it is a good idea to contact your local ambulance service, even if you don’t have a child with medical issues. You never know when you will need them and the last thing you want to be dealing with in an emergency is giving directions.
